Photograph of the valley of Ala-Archa National Park located 40 kilometers in southern of Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan (or Kyrgyz Republic). The park covers about 200 square kilometers and belongs to a much wider mountain range called Tian Shan. This 2,500 kilometers mountainous massif (two-thirds of which is in China) is UNESCO World Heritage in its western part through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Peak Semenova Tian-Shanski is the highest peak in Ala-Archa Park with 4,895 meters. Despite the altitude, about 2,000 meters for the gorge, we can see juniper trees all along the river because this tree has the ability to survive in hostile environment (low oxygen, poor soil, and with negative temperatures).
